It would be a good time to introduce cleanliness as a child. For the good will be captured by the memory of their brain and will make it an easy habit. One of the hygiene that children are encouraged to teach is dental hygiene. Likewise with adult teeth, children’s teeth also play a vital role in child chewing and talking. When a child’s teeth are damaged, this causes a slower growth in the adult teeth.
In view of this, it is best to introduce good dental care to children during infancy. The following practice will help keep teeth and gums healthy:
- You can start to clean the baby’s mouth even before they have any teeth. Use a warm wet washcloth to clean baby’s gum everyday, beside clean sugar from the gum, they will feel familiar with this thing in their mouth.
- Many babies are left to sleep with their bottles or sippy cups in their mouths. These habits are bad habits. Milk or juice sometimes contain sugar that would later damage the teeth if left to last longer. It would be better to break the habit
- Not using milk bottles for kids in a long time. Introduce them to a new drinking area like a sippy cup at the age of one year
- At meal time give the toddlers drinks some water. Then for milk or juice outside of meal times.
- Use a soft baby toothbrush and don’t forget to use fluoride toothpaste but with a tiny amount no bigger than a grain of rice. brush them twice a day, it’s when the baby has teeth. Children who are 3 to 6 years of age may use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste.
- Always help to brush their teeth until they’re able to brush their own teeth without anyone’s help. Keep the toothpaste out of children’s reach when it is not in use.
- Take your child to see a dentist within 6 months of their first tooth appearing (ADA Recommendation)
- Bacteria that cause cavities can be transmitted through eating utensils. Therefore, never share adult cutlery with children, because these bacteria are more commonly found in adult cutlery
